About Rachel Patterson
Licensure: I’m proud to be a practicing Licensed Professional Counselor (License #73790) in the state of Texas.
Education: I have a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Continuing Education: In addition to keeping up with the requirements put forth by the state licensing board, I have sought out additional training to be the kind of therapist I want to be.
I’m trained in DEEP (Dynamic Enriched Experiential Psychotherapy), a way of being with clients that focuses on undoing the aloneness that can come from difficult human experiences using a blend of attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, developmental psychology, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. In addition to the year long DEEP Experiential Therapy Skills and Theory Training Course, I meet monthly for a DEEP-focused consultation and study group with Candyce Ossefort-Russell.
I have also completed the year-long NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model) Basics Training for working effectively with complex and developmental trauma.
Additionally, I attend a weekly group consultation with Jev Sikes focusing on clinical issues related to group therapy, and pursue my own individual therapy for personal growth and healing.
I count myself fortunate to be influenced and shaped by my mentors, teachers, and peers in this field.
Personal: Growing up in Hawaii, attending school in Upstate New York, and settling down in Austin has allowed me to develop a strong and deep appreciation for all forms of diversity.
You can often find me on a seldom-used trail exploring sights and sounds and smells with my dog (and sometimes with friends). I’m an animal person love learning from (and enjoying) my two cats and my dog—if we work virtually you might see one of them in the background on my office couch!
